Celebrating 20 years of Axe Capoeira Arizona
As part of celebrating 20 years of Axe Capoeira in Arizona, Grupo Axé Capoeira presents their theater performance, Essa Arte Me Encanta (This Art I Love/Enchants Me). This performance piece consists live Brazilian percussion and many different Afro-Brazilian dance styles such as of the powerful of Maracatu, featuring mystical orixas in Brazilian folklore, Colheita, a dance signifying the harvest of the coffee bean, or Capoeira, a martial-art consisting of kicks, close escapes, take downs and acrobatics.
Hear new music performances from international recording artists, Mestre Barrão (Marcos da Silva) and Mestrando Testa (Kevin Brett) – with selections coming from both of their newly released albums “a voz do cantador” and “Tradição” The show culminates in a Batizado e Troca de Corda, a graduation ceremony were capoeira practitoners play for their next capoeira rank. Featuring both adult and youth performers, Essa Arte Me Encanta is a reflection of how this Afro-Brazilian art-form builds communities and brings together people from every walk of life.

Axé Capoeira is a capoeira, music, and dance organization with chapters in over twenty-five countries around the world. They are well-known in the capoeira community for bringing many Afro-Brazilian folkloric dance styles from the rich culture of north-eastern Brazil to the stage.
Axe Capoeira Arizona is one of the most dynamic and premier performance groups in the Southwest. Their mission is to encourage and promote fitness and Brazilian culture while providing a positive environment for students to challenge themselves physically and mentally. Having performed for Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns, Tsunami Festival, and the Governor’s Art Award ceremony, among others; has allowed Axé Capoeira Arizona to reach more than 400,000 in people in Arizona annually!
